Care of your mounts
When you hang your trophy, you want to keep it looking as good as it did that first day. Here are a few steps that can help.

-
Hang using an appropriate size lag screw into a wall stud at a slight downward angle.
-
Avoid moisture, heat, and sunlight.
-
Mounts need frequent and gentle dusting.
For mammals with flat hair, such as elk or deer, you can dust them with a feather duster or Swiffer. If you must brush it use a soft bristled brush to fix hair that is out of place. -
Clean the antlers and horns with a damp cloth. Use of oils or lacquers may discolor horns.
-
Clean the eyes with a cotton swab and Windex.
-
If you must handle the mounts do so by antlers/horns and brisket. Antelope hair is especially brittle and touching it can break if off.
-
Clean fish mounts with cans of compressed air with under 20 lbs. of pressure. For some of the more difficult spots you can use a damp cotton swab.
-
Clean bird mounts with a cotton ball or lightly with a feather duster or Swiffer in the direction of the feathers.
-
We all know how great a mount looks over a fireplace, however that is the worst place for a mount. The heat and smoke will destroy our hard work and ruin your trophy.
